As you are aware, since the permit
revision azea contains National Forest System Lands, Forest Service concurrence is needed
before the permit revision can be approved. Listed below are comments and items needing
clarification identified by the GMUG.
1. Page 2.04-24. Mudslides should be "mudstone."
2. Page 2.04-29, Table 3. Federal Leased should be Federal Leases.
3. Page 2.04-40, the new pazagraph in Steep Topography". This seems to be out of context, is it
in the correct place?
4. Page 2.04-48, end of 1st pazagraph. Does the potential for rockfall pose a risk to habitats
used by raptors and bats?
5. Page 2.04-57, Ist full paragraph. It must be recognized that the scale and level of detail on
USGS quadrangle maps do not always accurately depict the conditions on the ground, especially
with regazd to perennial and non-perennial segments of stream courses. Are there any other data
that support that Box Canyon and other drainages aze ephemeral?
6. Page 2.04-59. Map 37 is referenced on this page. Map 37 shows locations of stock ponds
and "Forest Service Water Resoutres". The difference between these two designations is unclear
and needs to be clarified.
7. Pages 2.04-62 to 65A, Table 5. There does not appeaz to be a monitoring location included
for the main stem of Deep Creek at the permit boundary. A location on the main stem should be
included especially since there is a perennial portion of Deep Creek that will be subsided. Map
37 shows a series of springs labeled E-6 to 11 in the northern portion of the Box Canyon permit
revision area, none of these are included in the monitoring program shown on Map 34 or on
Table 5. The rationale For not includine these needs to be discussed.
~~s~n-
Caring for the Land and Serving People rnmw un Awy~i.a a.o., ili-
