J. Waldron
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Bowie Resources Limited - Bowie No. 1 Mine
Sediment Pond Repair - TR-027
Permit C-81-038
Dear Mr. Waldron:
On July 28, 1995 the Operator submitted an application for a technical
revision to incorporate a sediment pond repair plan into the permit.
The repair plan provided for the construction of an earthen embankment
at the downstream face on the binwall dams. The Division's letter
dated September 28, 1995 transmitted its adequacy review of the repair
plan. The Operator responded to the Division's adequacy review by its
letter dated October 5, 1995.
During October, the Operator received a proposal from a local company
to use polyurethane grout to repair the dams. The grout was to be
injected into the dams through holes drilled into the downstream face
of the dams.
The Operator decided, based on price and schedule, to use polyurethane
grout to repair the dams. The grouting work has been completed and it
is believed the dams will no longer leak excessively. The lower three
dams, numbers 2, 3 and 9 were repaired.
The Operator intends to revise the primary spillways on the dams. A
12-inch valve will be installed at the outlet end of each of the
primary Spilll•/ayS. The s_~e of the primary spil~a,ays .s presented on
Map No. 8A-4. All four of the primary spillways are 12-inches in
diameter, therefore the installation of the 12-inch valves will not
change the design discharge capacity of the primary spillways.
Please approve the polyurethane grout repair of the dams and the
installation of the 12-inch valves at the outlet end of each of the
primary spillways through approval of technical revision number 27. No
revised pages or maps will result from this approval. Please call if
you have any questions.
Sin erely,
Jim Stover, P.E.
Consulting Engineer
cc: Basil Bear
