TRAPPER ~ININC INC.
November 26, 1991
CERTIFIED #P782939284
Mr. Kent Gorham
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division
215 Centennial Bldg.
1313 Sherman St
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Kent:
RE: Technical Revision 58
Expansion of the long term utility ash disposal area in Ashmore Pit
Trapper Mine intends to expand our current long term utility ash disposal area in Ashmore pit to
accomodate ash disposal in pit cuts within the Middle Pyeatt drainage (cuts 77 through 83). Trapper's
utilization of these pit cuts for utility waste disposal would extend the life of our current ash disposal area
and allow for a centralization of minewide waste within a specific area. Trapper is approved to dispose of
utility waste and other waste in other pits ('I'R-35 and 45), however to date all waste has been disposed of in
the Ashmore pit area.
Current mining sequencing and the projected advancement for eastern A pit would permit concentrated and
cost effective ash disposal immediatety adjacent to the existing approved long term sites. An area
approximately 84 acres in size is proposed for expansion. Maps 47 and 47a are revised to depict the
proposed utility waste expansion area.
Groundwater monitoring site GMP-1 (see Map M52 and permit page 4-247d) was established in September
1990 to gather baseline water data in advance of ash disposal in this area. Quar[erty and yearly water quality
sampling will continue at GMP-1 as specified in our mining and reclamation permit Additionally
appropriate surface water quality control is in place via three sediment control ponds within the Middle
Pyeatt drainage. All utility ash shall be disposed as specified in Section 4.3.4.5 of our mining and
reclamation permit. The critical pit crest elevation for this new area is 6626 (ft MSL). All utility waste will
be disposed at least 10 feet above this elevation. Enclosed is updated permit pages 4-98b and 4-100 and an
additional permit page (4-99e) showing across-section depicting "no utility waste disposal zone" in Ashmore
pit (Middle Pyeat[ drainage) from profde E-E' on map M47a.
Kent, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me
Sincerely,
~~~
William Agnew
Sr. Environmental Engineer
WSH/WNb
[CMLRD\~OV?bJ
Enclosure
G.M.
