iii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
New Elk Mine
. Permit !/ C-81-012
Relevant Showing for Haul and Access Roads
Location:
The location of all Haul and Access roads is shown on Maps 11 and 12 of the permit. They are
not located in any stream channels, nor do they ford any stream. The roads and the corresponding
drainage plan are located to minimize downstream sedimentation and flooding.
Design and Construction
The grades on all roads is less than 10 percent. No road has any section of 300 feet with a grade
exceeding 15 percent, and no consecutive section of 1,000 feet with a grade over 15 percent. The
roads reasonably follow the existing topography. Road widths are adequate for the volume of
traffic. Typically, these roads are used-for designated purposes with appropriate haul trucks,
pickups, and other light vehicles.
All cut slopes and road embankments are less than 1.Sh:ly and have been stabilized with respect
to erosion with vegetative cover. Although knowledge is not available regarding actual
construction, all road embanlartents appear to be adequately constructed and stable.
D i a
All road surfaces are sloped sufficiently to prevent the ponding of water and erosion of the road
surface.
Culverts are provided at all drainage crossings. Culvert sizing is shown on Table 21 in the permit.
Ditches exist along all roads to control drainage. Ditch sizing information is presented on Tables
20 and 20A in the permit. Unless otherwise noted on the tables, all culverts and ditches are
designed to carry the peak discharge forma 10-year, 24-hour precipitation event.
u a '
Although actual construction knowledge is not available, the surface of all roads appears to be of
appropriate material (crushed rock or gravel).
Maintenance
All roads and related drainage control structures are inspected regularly, and maintenance
identified is performed to ensure compliance with performance standards.

~cxi.6l6
(Revised 9/01/98)
x-59 8~9A'
