Allen Cook has informed me
that Elbert County intends to re-open the Fondis Gravel Pit and mine approximately 60 acres.
We are strongly opposed to the re-opening.
The area continues to be a dramatic eye-sore both while the pit was in operation previlously and
even after it was "reclaimed" the land. The land was not satisfactorily reclaimed to its original
state, in our view. We live in this area because of its natural beauty and are not in favor of the
County creating an even larger visual disaster.
In addition, we are opposed to the destruction of the several hundreds of trees on the property.
These trees are tens of years old and destruction of these is not acceptable.
Please advise us of what options or proceedings are available to us. Please contact us at the
below address.
Best Regards,
~~- ~~~
doh Gr~+y
~~~od ~~~y mod, 7~
Cz-lhz~~, C~~or~ ~a~~8
CC: Mr. Jim Dilley
Mined Land Reclamation Division
Colorado Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street.
