We have also had telephone conversations with representatives of United Laboratories, [he chemical
manufacturer. Although the Material Safery Data Sheet (MSDS) contaias no aquatic toxicity data, the
manufacturer has stressed that this chemical is not toxic to aquatic life when used at the recommended
concentration. They supplied LC30 data for the chemical concentrate (prior to any dilution with wastewater) for
five species. While these LCao concentrations are low, it is not expected [hat combined effluent (at 2000:1
dilution) LCD values would be low as a result of this chemical. We conclude that use of this chemical should not
add observable toxicity to the discharge.
On this basis, we will authorize use of this chemical far the purpose requested at approximately 1:2000
concentration, as indicated in your letter. No additional permit conditions aze necessary for this use. If any
adverse conditions in the receiving water are observed as a result of use of this chemical please notify the Division
immediately.
Please contact me at (303)+692-3605 if you have questions.
Sincerely,
on Kubrc
Environmental Protection Specialist
Permits and Enforcement Section
WATER QUALITY CONTROL DIVISION
xc: Kathleen Sullivan, Permits and Enforcement Section, WQCD
!im Chubrilo, Field Suppon Section, WQCD
Jlarry Routten, CO Division of Minerals and Geology
Technical Enforcement Program, EPA
local Health Depanment
