Box 837
Gunnison, Colorado 81230
RE: Amendment Application, Rozman Pit, Permit No. M-81-014
Dear Mr. Gregg:
Per my conversation with Bruce Cramb September 1 1, 1992 I requested changes to the
amendment application so it will conform to the Rules. First, in your Item (BI, I asked that
the topsoil stockpiles be seeded per SCS recommendations within one year after being
deposited so they will not be adversely affected by the elements. Second, in your Item
(CI, I need a range of topsoil thickness you will use to cover the sidewalls and pit area.
Since the average thickness of topsoil in the area seems to be 6 inches I would suggest a
range of 4-6 inches. Third, your Item ID) refers to maximum slopes for ponds and lakes.
In a dry pit the slopes should be 3:1 or less as stipulated in the original application. You
can eliminate Item (D1.
Bruce Cramb and I discussed the access road that goes through the industrial area. This is
part of the affected area within your current permit area. Mr. Cramb said Valco will
continue using the road under an easement, or some other agreement, but it will be owned
and maintained by the industrial park residents. If you can substantiate, by some sort of
documentation, that this is true then the Division can release the affected area of the road
(only through the 11.28 acres of the industrial area) from reclamation requirements.
I plan to inspect the Rozman Pit during the week of October 5-9. I will call and let you
know the exact date as soon as I can.
If you have any questions please give me a call.
Sincerely,
~~ ,~ (.
James Dillie
Reclamation Specialist
JD/yjb
m:\oss\yjb\rozman
