MANAGEMENT
RECEIVED
JUL 16 2001
Division of Minerals 8 Geology
By letter dated May 23, 2001, I notified the DMG PCC would be adversely affected by the
DMG's decision to approve technical revision 33. The DMG's decision required the
implementation of the Permanent Minewater Management Plan by July 15"'.
The DMG and PCC have been working with the Water Quality Control Division (WQCD}
to obtain approval of an amendment to PCC's discharge permit to provide for an new
outfall for the dewatering system. There is an indication from the WQCD the permit
amendment may be approved by the end of September. PCC has a contractor ready to
drill the mine dewatering hole during October.
PCC has received the CORPS of Engineers approval to improve the channel north of I-70
and should have a Highway Department utility permit within a week or two.
I am confident the Permanent Minewater Management Plan can be implemented during
October if the WOCD approves PCC's permit amendment. On behalf of PCC, please
delay the July Board hearing on this matter. I recommend the Board hearing be continued
until a hearing is requested by either PCC or the DMG.
Please call if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
~~~
J. E.
