LAMU
RECLAMATIG~IV 1~IVIS1o~
Wyoming Fuel Company requests a Technical Revision to the
above permit to discontinue our annual mine inflow monitoring
program. Currently, Wyoming Fuel is required to monitor this
inflow each August.
As you know, We have temporarily sealed the openings of the
New Elk Mine. Consequently, the above mentioned monitoring will
need to be removed from the hydrology monitoring program as access
and power to the underground workings has been eliminated.
The mine workings have been allowed to flood with water as
controlled by the hydraulic head of the coal aquifer. Portal gad
airshaft surface elevations are above this hydraulic head and thus,
it wculd not be possible for water to discharge from the mine.
When mining activities resume, Wyoming Fuel Company will
reestablish an appropriate monitoring program.
If you have any questions on this matter please feel free to
contact me.
5
Stuart Francone
Environmental Coordinator
cc: C Tdinters
