Conversion application of Delta County Triantos Gravel Pit No. M-78-304
February 2, 1998
To Whom it may concern:
Whiting Farms, Inc. wishes to have any structures or equipment that would create
loud noise, to be positioned as far as possible away from its' property line. We are a
business that produces feathers from chickens which are used in tying flies for fisherman.
Loud noises create stress among our chickens and they may pile onto one another and
suffocate. They may also damage their feathers as they react to the noise (i.e. stress lines
on the feathers which causes the feather to break while wrapping onto the hook). We
could lose hundreds of thousands of dollars because of noise related damage (bird
mortality and feather damage) if a rock crusher for example, was close enough to our
property line for the chickens to be bothered.
We also are concerned about prevailing winds from the west carrying road dust
onto our facilities. Keeping dust to a minimum is important for bird health and product
condition and last but certainly not least, the well being and health of our 50 employees.
An asphalt road or a dust treatment on a gravel road would be greatly appreciated.
We thank you in advance for your consideration and help in minimizing the effects
of noise and dust to our business.
Sincerely,
N. Lyle Johnston Ph.D.
Vice President
Whiting Farms, Inc.
Thomas Whiting, Ph.D., President/Owner Mr. Jerry Toft, V.P., C.F.O.
