Permit Renewal Application No. 3 (RN-3)
Dear Sir or Madam:
The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34,
Article 33, Section 118, Paragraph 3. of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on October 5,
1998, an application to renew an existing permit to conduct coal mining operations at the
Colorado Coal Mine No. 1 was considered complete for the purposes of filing. All review and
comment periods as provided in the Colorado Surface Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules
initiate from this date of filing.
Kaiser Ventures, Inc. proposes to continue surface coal mining and/or reclamation
operations on land located approximately 4 miles northwest of Walsenburg. The permit area
is further described as follows:
4 Miles NW of Walsenburg
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of
Walsenburg North.
The mine site has been reclaimed and has successfully completed a Phase II bond release.
Renewal of the permit will be for completion of the reclamation of the site, which consists of a
demonstration that the site meets the revegetation requirements of the approved permit.
Additional mining or disturbance is not proposed. ~ "

Courthouse, 401 Main St, Walsenburg, CO 81089, and at the Division office. For additional
