Box 338 DEC 0 4 2000 Cotopaxi, Colorado 81223 719-942-4178 Division of Minerals and Ceolagy October 19, 2000 Mr. James Dillie, Environmental Specialist Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology 1313 Sherman Street Rm 215 Denver, CO 80203 RE: REQUEST FOR BOND REDUCTION, M-77-247 COALDALE QUARRY Dear Mr. Dillie, Per our recent telephone conversation, I would like to request the Division's review and approval of a bond reduction for closure work completed during the 2000 field season at the Coaldale Gypsum mine operation, on schedule for completion of closure by year 2002. During the past year, the main focus of closure work has been the removal of a large highwall feature identified as the Copper Hil] highwall. Cost estimates for the removal of the Copper Hill highwall totaled S250K over two seasons. Due to adjustments in the schedule allowing for more time and budget for highwall work in 2000, approximately 80% of the highwall work, or $200,000 of the closure cost estimate was realized during the past field season. In addition, $50,000.00 in revegetation work, including seeding, planting, mulching, and maintenance was performed during the season as outlined in the closure plan schedule for 2000. As you know, the curzent bond for the Coaldale site is $631,000.00. As agent for G-P Gypsum in this matter, I would like to request a site visit by the Division to review the work performed. Mr. Tom Brooks will attend the meeting if possible. Once you have firmed up your time schedule for the first or second week in November, please let me know and I will contact Tom.
