This is
the tenth monthly report as required under the approved TR.
We continue to control and manage seepage water emanating from the adit. Seepage flows were
directed into the infiltration trench at all times except fora 2-'/: day period. During this period the adit
plug valve was shut to allow for plumbing and pump reconfiguration and maintenance on the
evaporative spray system. Flow rates directed to the infiltration trench were below the 30 gpm
threshold, except for a short period after the adit plug valve was re-opened. Trench performance
continues to meet or exceed expectations. The two 121 vadose zone piezometers adjacent to the
infiltration trench were monitored per the Technical Revision conditions. Vadose zone water was not
detected in the piezometers nor was there evidence of surface water in the vicinity of [he trench.
Vadose zone piezometer monitoring data is attached with other monitoring data for the trench and adit
flows. One water quality sample 198-8 Trench Inlet) was taken during the report period on August 4,
1998. Analytical data are attached.
In addition, as part of this monthly report and in accordance with the 9360 Level Adit Closure
Monitoring Plan, dated April 1998, Windy Gulch monitoring was continued during this period. One
water quality sample 198-8 WGWB) was taken on August 4, 1998. Analytical data are attached. Flow
at the time of sampling was estimated to be about 5 gpm through the existing weir.
Thank you for your time and attention on this matter.
