iiiiiiiiiiiiiiuiii
999
STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Governor
DEPARTMENT OFNATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA, Dlreetor
DATE: June 26, 1989
TO: Bruce Humphries, Minerals Program Supervisor
FROM: Daniel Hernandez, Reclamation Specialist
RE: Snyder Quarry Amendment Research Project,
Castle Concrete Company
ML RD Permit No. M-77-210, Revision No- AM-03
The Mined Land Reclamation Board, at their June 21-22, 1989 Board meeting,
directed the Division staff to investigate the appropriatness of the
post-mining land use for this proposed amendment. The categories being
investigated are forest planting, wildlife habitat, or some combination of the
two, as outlined in Section 34-32-116 of the Mined Land Reclamation Act.
A meeting between you, me, and Reclamation Specialists John Doerfer and
Larry Oehler was held on Friday morning, June 23, 1989, We discussed what
information should be presented to the Board at the July 26-27, 1989 meeting.
This information would be the basis for the Board's decision to:
1. allow Castle Concrete to retain their choice of post-mining land
use as wildlife habitat;
2- direct the applicant to change the proposed final use to forest
planting, or
3- direct the applicant to modify his proposed reclamation plans to
more closely approach a forest while being allowed to retain the
final use designation as wildlife habitat.
Our group decided that the areas of investigation would be handled by the
following staff personnel:
Bruce Humphries: local land use regulation issues;
John Doerfer: hydrology and erosion issues;
Larry Oehler: vegetation and soils issues;
Dan Hernandez: project coordinator; wildlife, geology, and safety,
construction, operation, and maintenance issues.
We decided that we would meet later today to discuss our progress toward
preparing a final report on Wednesday, June 26, 1989.
D H ~Gentennial Building, 1373 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203.2273 Tel.
