Colorado 80203
Re: Meeker Area Mines Phase II Bond Release
Dear Mr. Long:
REC~E1iF=i::
JUN 9 1994
Divsior+ e! h.^~nerz,~ ;; Gecic~y
This letter serves as the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement's concurrence on
the proposed Phase II bond release for the Enron Coal Company, Meeker Area Mines, Permit No.
C-81.026. Prior to rendering this decision, the Albuquerque Field Office (AFO) had requested
technical assistance from the Western Support Center (WSC) regarding the sediment standard
comparisons needed for baseline data as well as vegetative cover data. There is one matter that
should be addressed for future reference, however, the Division of Minerals and Geology must
prepare a decision document excluding the areas that have not been included in the Phase I bond
release. Concurrence from this office will be made with the stipulation that the areas not released
are identified, and noted as such, within 2 weeks of the receipt of this letter.
Pursuant to the WSC finding regarding this matter, AFO agrees with the proposed decision
document dated November 20, 1992, to approve a partial Phase II Bond Release at the Meeker
Area Mines. The latest WSC findings document regarding the sediment standards comparison
review is enclosed for your information.
Thank you and your staff for your efforts in coordinating this bond release through our office.
Sincerely,
Thomas E.
