The revision was submitted by Bowie Resources L invited. All review
and comment periods az provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing.
Approval of this technical revision would allow the construction of a ventilation shaft in the northeast section of the Bowie No.
2 permit area. Access to the site would be through the BLM Freeman Gulch public road, and then by an already-existing
exploration drill site light use road (the surface owned by BLM and by Bowie Resources). The shaft site is at a former
exploration drill pad site (the surface owned by Bowie Resources). Bowie Resources has applied for access to the BLM portion
of the road through Federal Right-of--Way COC-63617. The shaft wi!I be 6 to 8 feet in diameter and lined with steel. The shaft
will be about 400 feet deep and any water that is encountered will drain into the mine. The initial drill hole did encoun[er some
water in the upper colluvium but not in the formations themselves. There will not be a fan on the ventilation shaft. The
disturbed area for this project is about one acre, most of which has aUeady occurred through the exploration drilling program.
The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 5 miles norheazt of Paonia, Colorado..The permit
area is further described az follows:
Portions of Sections 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, I I, 14, I5, and 16, Township 13 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrulgle map of Bowie.
A copy of the technical revision application is avai{able for public inspection at the Delta County Courthouse, 5th & Palmer,
Delta, CO 81416, and at the Division office. For additional information or to provide written comments, contact the Division
of Minerals and Geology, Room 215, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, Colorado 80203, (303) 866-3567. In order for us to
comply with regulatory time frames, we request that comments be submitted within fifteen (IS) days of this letter. If no
comments are received by then, we will proceed on the assumption that you have no concerns with, or objections to, the
applicant's proposal.
Sincerely,
~~ D,.~
eph Du h
Environmental Protection Specialist
J1D/Jrc
,, iii iiiiiiiiiiiiiii
STATE OF COLORADO
C-TR-0J C199b08J 11D :0000309 I N900 AM da
