iii iiiiiiiiiiiii iii
December 1. 2000
RECEIVED
DEC 0 4 2000
Vernon and Peggy Burch
8325 Firethorn Drive
Loveland, CO 80538
Oiuision of Minerals and Geology
Mr. Carl Mount
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street Rm 215
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Mr. Mount:
We are residents of Masonville, Colorado and we are writing you to express our concern
about the proposal to expand quarry operations submitted to your department by Glenn
Southwick DBA Masonville Stone Company.
Our home is in close proximity to the quarry and want to express our concerns about the
following issues:
(1) Business hour infractions including work performed at the quarry on Thanksgiving
Day;
(2) Overburden from the quarry being held in place only by living trees;
(3) Excessive noise and dust levels that we feel exceed allowable limits;
(4) Equipment that may not meet safety standards;
(5) Reclamation efforts are not being made;
(6) Increased truck traffic operating into the night;
(7) Further loss of wildlife habitat;
(8) Stormwater management not being performed;
We feel expansion of the existing quarry operation is incompatible with the residential
growth in the Buckhorn Valley and we respectfully ask that your department deny this
request for expansion.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
~~,~~~
Veritdf~dnd Peggy Burch
