Long <br /> Division DireUOr <br />Re: New Elk Mine (Permit No. C-81-012) <br />Technical Revision No. 40 (Drill Mud Disposal into Pond 004) <br />Dear Mr. Ossola: <br />Pursuant to Title 34, Article 33, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, the Division of Minerals and <br />Geology hereby issues notice that on August 1, 1995, a technical revision application for a <br />permit to conduct coal mining operations by Basin Resources, Inc., 14300 Highway 12, Weston, <br />Colorado 81091, was deemed complete for the purposes of filing. All reviews and comment <br />periods as provided in the Act and Regulations promulgated thereunder initiate from this day of <br />filing. <br />The applicant proposes to revise underground coal mining operations at the New Elk Mine. The <br />revision addresses the disposal of drilling fluid from exploration, degasification, and development <br />drilling pits into pond 004 at the mine site. <br />The New Elk permit area is located approximately 25 miles west of Trinidad, Colorado, and is <br />described as follows: <br />Sections 13, 14, 21, 22, 23, 24,25, 26, 27, 28, 34, 35 <br />and 36 of Township 33 South, Range 68 West; Sections 1 <br />and 2 of Township 34 South, Range 68 West; Sections 30 <br />and 31 of Township 33 South, Range 67 West; and Section 6 <br />of Township 34 South, Range 67 West. <br />All sections are partially or fully projected by Basin Resources <br />due to the unsurveyed nature of the Maxwell Land Grant. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on the USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle maps of <br />Vigil, Tercio and Stonewall. <br />A copy of the technical revision application is available for public inspection at the Las Animas <br />County Courthouse, 200 East First Street, Room 104, Trinidad, Colorado.
