All reviews and comment
periods as provided in the Act and Regulations promulgated thereunder initiate from this day of
filing.
The applicant proposes to revise underground coal mining operations at the New Elk Mine. The
revision addresses the disposal of drilling fluid from exploration, degasification, and development
drilling pits into pond 004 at the mine site.
The New Elk permit area is located approximately 25 miles west of Trinidad, Colorado, and is
described as follows:
Sections 13, 14, 21, 22, 23, 24,25, 26, 27, 28, 34, 35
and 36 of Township 33 South, Range 68 West; Sections 1
and 2 of Township 34 South, Range 68 West; Sections 30
and 31 of Township 33 South, Range 67 West; and Section 6
of Township 34 South, Range 67 West.
All sections are partially or fully projected by Basin Resources
due to the unsurveyed nature of the Maxwell Land Grant.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on the USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle maps of
Vigil, Tercio and Stonewall.
A copy of the technical revision application is available for public inspection at the Las Animas
County Courthouse, 200 East First Street, Room 104, Trinidad, Colorado.
