SHELTON, Director
August 5, 1987
Mr. Larry Reschke
Project Engineer
Snowmass Coal Company
P. 0. Box 1354
Palisade, Colorado 81526
Re: Technical Revision No. 6 - File No. C-81-025 - North Thompson Mines
Dear Mr. Reschke:
I have reviewed the technical revision for revised reclamation contours at the
North Thompson Mines. Adequacy issues are noted below.
1) You note that several small areas will no longer have sediment control
after regrading. These areas need to be designated as "small area
exemptions" from sediment control on a map. A commitment is required by
Snowmass, before the Division can give approval, that these areas will be
seeded and mulched immediately upon final grade being achieved. To
prohibit mulch blowing from the reclaimed area, an additional commitment
is needed for crimping, use of a tackifier, or netting of the small area
exemptions.
2) The maps submitted need to include your stamped and signed seal. Also,
cross sections through the area need to be submitted in accordance with
Rule 2.05.4. Four sections cross slope evenly spaced through the site
should be sufficient.
3) Cut and fill volumes have not been submitted. Sufficient material does
not appear to be available to fill to the proposed contour. Please
clarify how these contours wiil be achieved. Also, Snowmass must commit
to submitting surveys of the site upon completion of reclamation with
contour intervals and scale the same as the proposed reclamation contour
maps.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
