Dept. of Natural Resource <br />Per your letter of May 4, 1982, we are supplying answers for your <br />few unanswered questions for which you have requested further details, <br />as follows: <br />1. An extension of the existing permit Area "D" was requested <br />to more fully cover the tailings impoundment area and the new <br />construction activity for containment of seepage. The area west <br />of Area "D" was extended to include the existing west interceptor <br />trench. The area south of Area "D" was extended to cover the <br />proposed cutoff trench and monitoring wells. <br />Currently all of permit Area "D" and the proposed addition <br />to permit Area "D" is U. S. F. S. property. The tailings dam, <br />interceptor trenches, tailings line, pump house and lines, <br />and access roads were constructed and installed under an <br />operating plan with the U. S. F. S. in the "Wagon Wheel Gap" <br />withdrawal area. <br />On June 22, 1981, the "Wagon Wheel Gap" withdrawal was revoked <br />by the BLM and on that date Homestake located mill site claims <br />over the permit Area "D". Other interests have over staked <br />the Homestake mill site claims with lode claims. <br />Homestake is now in the process of obtaining patents on the <br />permit area "D" mill site claims along with other mill site <br />claims located in the proposed addition to permit Area "D". <br />Adjacent ownership to permit Area "D" is U.S.F.S. property <br />staked with overlapping mill site and lode claims.
