After the <br />informal conference and a <br />pre-hearing conference, the <br />the permit may be recom- <br />mended for approval or for <br />denial. Hard Rock Paving's <br />application then goes to a for- <br />mal boazd hearing which will <br />be Oct. 20. <br />The discontented citizens <br />were concerned about several <br />items including the type of <br />zoning and how the mining <br />would affect the lives of 180 <br />neighbors. <br />At this meeting, primarily, <br />the residents learned that <br />they may have to rely on the <br />Chaffee County <br />Commissioners to address <br />their problems. From a list of <br />17 issues addressed by the <br />protesters, there were only <br />four which•aze in the jurisdic- <br />tion of the Minerals applica- <br />tion review, advised Bruce <br />Humphries, a Minerals pro- <br />gram supervisor who conduct- <br />ed the conference. <br />Other issues such as zon- <br />ing, dust, noise and potential <br />water pollution aze all in the <br />countys jurisdiction, he said. <br />Other agencies such as the <br />Environmental Protection ' <br />Agency would also review the i <br />application and make recom- <br />mendations. <br />;; In response to the discus- <br />sions a"t the conference; BevJ' <br />Goggins submitted a prepazed <br />letter of demands from the cit- <br />izens. . <br />Angela Bellantoni, Hard <br />Rock Paving's environmental <br />scientist said that most of the <br />issues have been addressed. <br />Recently, Hazd Rock Paving <br />applied for a conversion from <br />a 110 to a 112 permit. <br />The conversion means that <br />they company could operate a <br />bigger pit. <br />The company already can <br />operate the gravel pit on the <br />110 permit and can operate as <br />long as the resource is there, <br />according to Humphries. <br />They can also apply to be <br />inactive on the mines permit <br />for up to 10 years, according <br />to Humphries. <br />Persons wanting to be <br />named as parties in the suit <br />must file with Denver by <br />Sept. 2. <br />... rrcC wYgIT AYES <br />&iwla Yuo~, CO <br />(ChaMee Coungr) <br />Thu, 2,~0D .. <br />
