The plan would involve
utilization of the reclamation as well as the adjacent undisturbed
vegetation. Throughout the grazing season, the area will be grazed on a
rotating basis with other property controlled by Cyprus.
The enclosed map, Mine 3 Grazing Plan, indicates the area which will be
grazed. At this time, the southern portion of Mine 3 reclamation will riot
be grazed. Cattle will be kept away from this area with the use of
electrical fence.
There are four types of vegetation which will be grazed in addition to the
reclamation: native pastureland, brome hay (dryland hay), hay cropland
(irrigated hay), sage-meadow, and alkali sagebrush. The permit document
describes these vegetation types in further detail, with the exception of
the sage-meadow vegetation type. Both Pond M3-W and existing streams,
Middle Creek and Foidel Creek, are accessible r"or use by the cattle.
The area proposed for grazing covers about 310 acres. As indicated by Table
1, Forage Availability, about 198,000 pounds of forage are available for
livestock utilization. Table 2, Reclamation Summary, indicates the
parameters of cover and production for the reclaimed parcels.
Currentl}•, CYCC, through the Trout Creek Ranch, plans to maintain the
ranching operation with steers. Using an AUM rate of 640 pounds of forage
per month, the area is capable of supporting about 310 steers.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give me a call.
Sincerely,
~~[y~r.~--~ ~mP/r
Claire Semmer
Environmental Specialist
CES/mlp
Enclosures
~~
