• Miss Mejory Abboll • !III III III III IIII III
999
720 Sulherlend Plece ~j/
Menimu Springs, CO 80829
April 30, 1y89
i•iined Land Reclamation Board
1313 Sherman St. Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Dan Hernandez:
I am writing to portest any changes in the permmt for Snyder Quarry, and
especially the request to mine 1~3rd of the east wall of 'r(illiams C anyon.
I am concerned for the following reasons:
1. The destruction of a part of a unique limestone canyon.
2. Another large scar on the front range to add to the other two rapidly
growing scars. This one will be seen from down town, the Cave of the
Winds, Pikes Peak, and the ~,anitou incline and the Waldo Trail.
3. Air and water polluntion.
4. Destruction of Wild life habitat
5. Soil erosion.
6. Possible damage to the Cave of the Winds - tirith the blasting.
I ask that you take action to:
1. Develop a policy that would protect natural scenic areas, including
those that draw tourists, from destructive mines.
2. A policy that allows for imput from citizens who would be affected by
such mines.
3. Develop higher standards for reclaiming mined areas. Luoking at the
efforts which have been made to reclaim the quarry above Queens Canyon
present regulations are not very effective, or have not been applied.
Such standards should limit the finished slope of the land.
Sincerely
~°~~ ~---
r ~ !` Viz. ~ ~ ^ !~',^, ~~yr
,. ~~~~
I~ii'.c-'~ L.AiVO
,v.. rJ _.
