STATE OF COLORADO
Bill Owens, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
DIVISION OF WILDLIFE
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNRY EMPLOYER
John W. Based on our review and
knowledge of wildlife uses in the local area we don't believe this proposed expansion will negatively impact the
wildlfe resource. Further, we believe the reclamation plan developed in conjunction with the NRCS is appropriate
and adequate to ensure proper reclamation of the site following mining. We would suggest, however, that a!I
stockpiled topsoil be stored, sloped, and seeded with an appropriate temporary seed mix to minimize loss to
erosion over the life of the pit. We believe this especially necessary due to the expected life of the mine. Finally,
if deemed practical, we would suggest that reclamation be initiated prior to the full completion of mining to
minimze the extent of exposed and disturbed acreage.
The Division appreciates having the opportunity to provide comments. Please feel free to contact me at
(719)227-5227 should you have any questions or require additional information.
Sincerely,
David C.
Habitat E
Cc: Tom Martin, CDOW
file
Fig
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Greg Watcher, Executive Director
WILDLIFE COMMISSION, Chuck Lewis, Chairman • Mark LeVelley, Vice-Chairman • Bernard L.
