Remove Train Loadout and Stockpile Area from Permit
Dear Mr. Green:
The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 116,
Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on Mazch 19, 2001, an application to revise coal mining
operations at the Bowie Mine No. 1 was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was
submitted by Bowie Resources Limited. All review and comment periods as provided in the Ac[ and the
Regulations initiate from this date of filing.
Technical Revision No. 35 provides for the removal of the Bowie No. I Train Loadout and stockpile area,
including the associated reclamation liability, from the Bowie No. I Permit. Under a separate revision, Technical
Revision No. 19, the train loadou[ and stockpile area, including the associated reclamation liability, would be
added to the Bowie No. 2 Permit. No other changes would occur with this revision.
The Undergound coal mining operation is on land located approximately 3 miles North of Paonia, Colorado. The
permit area is further described as follows:
Portions of Sections I, 2, 3, 10-15, 22-25, Township 13 South, Range 92 West of the 6th P.M.
Portions of Sections 5-8, 17-19, 29-32, Township 13 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M.
The loadou[ is located in Sections 29, 30, 31 and 32 of Township 13 South, Range 91 West.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Bowie.
Because the above-referenced technical revision application would incorporate additional lands into the permit
area or might otherwise alter previously approved permit conditions or mitigation measures, we are requesting
your agency's evaluation of the potential for impacts to cultural and historic resources.
In accordance with the May 1991 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between our agencies, we must have
your concurrence in order to approve this proposal. We are required to make a finding that "the proposed
operations will not adversely affect any publicly owned park or place listed on or those places eligible for listing,
as determined by the SHPO, on the National Register of Historic Places, unless approved jointly by the Board and
the Federal, State, or local agency with jurisdiction over the park or place." Therefore, we request that you submit
