I appreciate
your offer to take aquick-look at the water analysis for the alternate source. The initial
reaction you and Dr. Posey have to the idea will help us decide whether or not to further
pursue this idea. Should the project prove feasible, 1 understand that Western Mobile will
need to submit a mining permit technical revision and a more thorough review will be
required.
The Western Mobile mine currently purchases potable water (-30-80 million gallons/year) for
gravel processing (no chemicals are used in this process). This mine uses three unlined
ponds for water storage and settling. As an alternate, use of cooling tower water from the
Nixon Power Plant is being considered. This alternate would have the following advantages:
• Lower the demand from the limited City of Fountain water supply
• Allow for reuse of our plant water
• Save money for both the mine and power plant operations
A typical cooling tower water analysis and a listing of tower chemical additives are attached
for your review. We are currently analyzing the water chemistry of the mining process and
cooling tower waters to determine if the project is chemically feasible.
Thanks again for your help. Please call me any time concerning this matter (719)448-8699.
Sincerely,
Carol M. Baker
Attachments
102 S.
