Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division received your Technical Revision Application (TR-03) for the Gold Basin Mine, Permit No.
M-1992-045. The operator proposes to revise the mining plan to further describe the wash water used in
the mining operation. The Division has the following questions regarding the revision that need to be
addressed prior to approval.
1, Please provide a map of the closed loop recirculafion system that you described in the revised
mine plan and the location of Lost Canyon Creek (Cashe Creek Ditch). Please include all ponds,
ditches and culverts that are used in this system. Maps and Exhibits must confirm to the
requirements of Rule 6.2 of the Hazd Rock/Metal Mining Rules and Regulations.
2, As noted during the Division's inspection of August 25, 2006, Lost Creek flows across the
property into a culvert that goes under the mine access road. Once the water leaves the culvert, it
enters two sediment ponds located in the permit azea. No other water flows into these ponds and
does not come in contact with the recirculated mine water. However, by routing this Lost Creek
though the sediment ponds the operator may be required to obtain a National Pollutant Dischazge
Elimination System (NPDES) Permit from the Colorado Department of Public Health and the
Environment. Please inform the Division as to the need to obtain a NPDES permit for routing
Lost Creek through the two sediment ponds.
Please be advised that Division's decision due date is set for January 8, 2007. If you feel more time is
needed to complete your reply, the Division can grant an extension to the decision date. This will be done
upon receipt of a written waiver of your right to a decision by January 8, 2007 and request for additional
time. This must be received no later than the deadline date.
