~~~~1~~
f~pY 21989
MINED LANC%
~~ RECLAMA?10N D~V~S~O~~
Mined Land Reclamation Board
1313 Sherman St. Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Attention: Dan Hernandez
• iiiiiiiiiiuiiiiiii
5130 Alderstone Way
Colorado Springs, Colorado 80919
April 29, 1989
For an area that was the inspiration for "America the Beautiful" this area
has surely messed up. Colorado Springs is rapidly becoming known as a city
of Gravel Pits, Uncovered Gravel Trucks, and Car Washes.
PLEASE do not allow any changes in the development of the Snyder Quarry near
Williams Canyon. Greed and insensitivity seem to be the only sentiments of
the Quarry owners.
I am a retired Public Health Nurse and am suffering breathing problems (asthma).
I feel the dirt from the quarry is causing much of my distress. I get my
aar washed twice a week and wash my car windows every day in order to see out.
I am concerned about the lungs of the children who live and play in this aPea.
There are several elementary schools in this area. The dust is unbelievable.
Since the economy is suffering in this area Tourism needs to be a prime
economic source. My friends and relatives who have visited here are shocked
at the gravel pits destroying the mountain viewing (scenery).
The wildlife are also being shut out. Soon it may be too late for them.
The Quarry Owners reel®ation plans are a~,oke. They do not plan to water
the seeding. Anyone knows watering is a must in this area plus the beautiful
canyons will be gone forever.
Again Greed and In sensitivity revailed among the developers in this area.
May I prev~i upon you to stop this further destruction and contamination
of a ~i area before it is too late.
Sincerely,
~,
M o ie E. Clarke
