McArdle
Mined Land Reclamation
Colorado Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 423
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Jim:
Please find enclosed a Successor of Operator form signed by Bailey
Construction of Meeker, Colorado and rrgself.
I would like to ask for a reduction of the reclamation bond of
$2,500,00 to $500,00, The purpose of this reduction is because
the mined area of this pit is to be returned to R4' primary calving
area after mining is completed, Historically, this has been the
area our cattle have used for calving, This is because of a warm
current oP air that is prevailant there, This is important because
a 10 degree increase in temperature to a newborn calf can mean the
difference between life and death, A gravel base will provide a
drier and better drainage area for these calves to be born.
What I would like to propose is to not return the topsoil to this
area, and to slope the north and east sides of the pit area to a
3:1 slope. Also, I would like to leave these slopes gravel as it
will not erode and become muddy when cattle walk on it.
The west sides of this pit will be flat as this area has been previously
mined by Rio Blanco County. The south side of this pit is also flat as
it is located on a mesa top and the pit boundary is the mesa edge. I
have received an estimate of $500.00 from Mobley Construction of Meeker,
Colorado to slope the north and east sides to a 3:1 slope,
I would appreciate you giving this your careful consideration.
Sincerely,
Darryl D.
