iii iiiiiiiiiiiii iii
999
STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
COLORADO DIVISION OF MINES
Hamlet J. Barry III, Commisaionar
DATE: March 28, 1989
T0: Camille Farrell
FROM: Jce Nugent
RE: Blasting at Proposed Summit Pit
t.
After a review of the document "Potential for Blast-induced V1bra~ions at Cave
of the Winds from Mining at Proposed Summit Pit,' I have the fo1YD~ing
comments to make: z
3
The equations used for determining the weight of explosives to be used~in
a delay period is valid. The equation provides a maximum weight of
explosives 30-percent less than currently used standards.
Particle velocity for the calculated maximum weight of explosives is
within the limits of barely perceptible, and the expected weight of
explosives to be used is 0.33 to 0.5 the calculated weight projected for
each delay period.
Seismic monitoring should be used for the first few blasts to establish a
baseline and document the actual results of blasting.
4629E
1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 B66-3401
