Finley <br />SUBJECT: West Pit Pore Volume Calculations-Revisited <br />i.0 INTRODUCTION <br />Conditions in the West Pit backfill have changed since the firs[ calculations were made of West Pit <br />pore volume and Flushing requirements as part of the TR-26 investigation. In addition, there are <br />now available sufficient field-based water quantity and water quality data to warrant a re- <br />evaluation of the pore volume calculation. Additionally, the estimate of the total flushing volume <br />of groundwater can be revised to reflect the more recent data. This technical memorandum <br />provides: (1) a brief review of the previous calculations, (2) a summary of the information <br />considered in the re-evaluation of the pore volume/flushing calculations for the West Pit, and (3) <br />the revised estimate of West Pit saturate pore volume and total flushing volume. <br />2.0 REVIEW OF PREVIOUS PORE VOLUME CALCULATIONS <br />Previous estimates of West Pit pore volume and Flushing requirements were made initially as part <br />of the TR-26 investigation (March 1999) and subsequently using field data as o ~ January 2000 <br />that were gathered after implementation of the TR-26 water management plan Tlt~; basis for each <br />of these analyses is briefly reviewed to provide an historical perspective on the pare volume and <br />flushing requirement calculations. <br />2(36 Midpoint Dr., Sui[e B, Fort Collins, Colorado 80525 <br />Te/eplra»e (970) 484-7704 /FAX (970) 484-7789 <br />
