Russell Means
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Reclamation, Mining, & Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Rm. 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: 15 Road Gravel Pit (Permit No. M-2002-114) (CHS # 39872)
Dear Mr. Means:
Thank you for your correspondence dated October 17, 2006 (received by our office on October 19)
concerning the project listed above.
A search of our files indicates that a small portion of the proposed permit area has been surveyed for
cultural resources and that no historic properties were located in that portion of the permit area. However,
our files contain incomp]ete information for this area, as most of Colorado has not yet been inventoried for
cultural resources. As a result, there is the possibility that as yet unidentified cultural resources exist within
that portion of the proposed permit area which has not been surveyed.
Should human remains be discovered during mining activities, the requirements under State law CRS 24-80
part 13 apply and must be followed.
Please note that our review of your project is expedited when you indicate the extent of the proposed permit
area on a legible portion of the appropriate and clearly identified 7.5 minute USGS topographic map.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment. If we may be of further assistance, please contact Greg Wolff,
Compliance Coordinator, at (303) 866-4674.
Sincerely,
~,,,,J j~~~~!~
ahna Contiguglia
State Historic Preservation Officer
GC/GA W
