It appears
that the changes are not going to significantly alter the
implications to wildlife from the development. As most of the
material is engineering specs, and I am not an engineer, I must
rely on your staff to ensure that project design is adequate to
ensure against possible leaks, spills, etc. of toxic materials
that could impact wildlife. Will all holding ponds be fenced to
keep wildlife out? Will the ponds be monitored to prevent birds
from using the site, i.e. migrating waterfowl? If it should become
a problem, then the company should have a plan to correct it.
My understanding of the proposed changes suggests that they are
mainly for cost/benefit types of reasons. The amount of cyanide
will be essentially the same under both methods. Again, our main
concern is to prevent wildlife from coming into contact with
cyanide, and from cyanide entering into the aquatic environment,
and for adequate final reclamation of the site. Thank you for the
opportunity to review the amendment.
Sincerely,
(,,, Nano
Kirk W.
