RECEIVED
FEB 2 0 2002
February 2Q 2002 Division of Mineralsand Geology
Ms. Kate Pickford
Environmental Protection Specialist LAND DELIVERED
Division of Minerals and Geology AGGREGATE
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 INDUSTRIES
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Permit No. M-1999-021 -Stegner Farms -Technical Revision TR-003
Dear Kate:
Enclosed is the report prepared by Richard Henry of Scientech, Inc., entitled "Evaluation of the
Groundwater Conditions in the Vicinity of the Stegner Farm Gravel Mine Near LaPorte, Colorado." This
report delineates the areal extent of the effects of the slurry wall on groundwater in the area surrounding
the Stegner Farm Pit, as proposed in TR-003 and approved by the Division on February 1, 2002.
The conclusions contained in this report indicate that groundwater level changes attributable to the slurry
wall at this operation have neither triggered the events necessary to install a french drain, as provided
within the permit for this operation, nor has their been a violation or failure to operate within the
requirements specified in CRS-34-32.5-I 16(4)(h) and (i).
While the report concludes that no mitigation is warranted or recommended at this time, Aggregate
Industries has committed to deepen the existing well of area neighbor Darwin Roe, in an effort to address
groundwater level decreases resulting from the combination of local factors as noted in the report.
Deepening Mr. Roe's existing well to bedrock will provide him with access to an additional nine to ten
feet of groundwater Upon notice from Mr. Roe that he is ready for us to proceed, we will move forward
with that commitment.
Upon your review and analysis of the within report, please advise me if you have any questions or need
additional information. I would be happy to arrange a meeting with Mr. Henry as well, if this would be of
benefit to the Division.
Very truly yours,
~~/~~ ~
~ ~"~ - ~ Permit #: irJ-/~?-I/-~2/ Confidental?:
Connie Nickle Davis Class:_ T,~
Su ort Services Re resentative From: TYPe-Seq.: s
PP P Doc.
