Cattany
Division Director
Natural Rewurce Trustee
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety has reviewed Casey's submission of a Technical
Revision to eliminate the earthen barrier between the Chambers Pit and the Casey Concrete Pit Permit
Number M-1978-349. The Division sees no problem with the revision as it will simply create one larger
lake rather than the 2 now proposed. However, the one question that needs to be addressed is whether
the Augmentation or Well Permit has sufficient leeway to cover the exposure of the additional water
where the land bridge existed. Please submit documentation that either shows there currently is enough
water in the plan to cover the change or if there is a shortage, that appropriate measures have been
applied for to correct them.
United representative Brent Kerr has submitted a request to extend the decision date for the TR for the
Chambers Pit for 90 days. Since both permits are addressing the same issue staff recommends that
Casey Concrete do the same. As noted in the United extension approval, staff can approve the TR if the
water augmentation issue is clarified at any time.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South Third Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado
81501, telephone no. 970-241-1117.
Sincerely,
G.
