Battle Mountain Respurces (BMR)
contemplates a three-step approach for meeting the requirements of Abatement
Requirement No. 4. The steps are as follows:
1) Installation and operation of the CYTOX destruction system;
2) Installation and operation of a hydrogen peroxide destruction system; and
3) Installation and operation of an INCO SOZ/air destruction system.
On April 3, 1992, BMR submitted a Technical Revision (TR-005) for incorporation of
a CYTOX system for reduction of free cyanide levels in the tailings impoundment. On
April 7, 1992, Mined Land Reclamation Division (NERD) approved T1t-005 and the
process commenced operation on April 8, 1992. BMR believes that the CYTOX
destruction is functioning as intended and is effectively reducing the free cyanide
concentrations in the tailings slurry. As you know, the CYTOX destruction system was
not intended to be a method for reduction of other cyanide constituents in the
impoundment. Consequently, BMR proposes to install a hydrogen peroxide destruction
system in the tailings impoundment to reduce weak acid dissociable (WAD) cyanide
concentrations.
5670 GREEN WOOD PLAZA RL~D.
