The
increased tailings area security program was implemented as
an abatement action for the Notice of Violation, performance
requirement (1) issued to BMG on March 31, 1992. Daily,
routine inspections and drive-grounds of the area by BMG
employees will take place. The existing security fence
around the collection pond will continue to limit access to
this area.
The purpose of the increased security program was to safe
guard the health and safety of the general public and
wildlife during the time of elevated cyanide concentrations.
Both the upper and lower ponds have maintained a less than
five ppm CNWAD concentration since early August. The
collection pond concentration is currently at 38 ppm. The
tailings area cyanide concentrations are significantly below
the 50 ppm wildlife threshold as established by the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service. Also a weekend security
guard at the entrance of the property will restrict
admittance to the site by the general public.
If you have any questions, please contact us.
Sincerely,
Ken Kluksdahl
Operations Manager - San Luis
cc: Conrad Albert, Colorado Division of Wildlife
P.O.
