STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866-3567
FAX: (303) 832-8106
May 28, 2003 /
Mr. Brian Wilson
Earth/Stone Ltd. /
P. O. Box 781
Delta, Colorado 81416
RE: Moonscape Pit, Permit No. M-1997-027,
Dear Mr. Wilson:

DIVISION OF
~{~d MINERALS
~~ GEOLOGY
RECLAMATION
MI NIN G•SA FETY
Bill Owens
Governor
Greg E. Walther
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Acing Division Director
Technical Revision 1 Preliminary Adequacy Review `~
DMG has completed a preliminary adequacy review of your application for technical revision to the
Moonscape Pit, Permit No. M-1997-027. The application addresses changes to remove the
shop/residence area from the permit area. The application cannot be approved until the following
issues are adequately addressed. Please submit a response to the following issues as soon as
possible, but no later than May 30, 2003 so DMG staff have adequate time to review the
responses prior to the decision due date set for June 2, 2003. If your response, or a written
request for extension of the decision due date, are not received by 12:00 P.M. June 2, 2003 this
application may be denied.
AOEQt1ACY COMMENTS
1. In order to release the shop/residence area as proposed, the reclamation plan must be
revised to indicate the specifications to which this portion has been reclaimed. The flat
equipment storage yard and driveway/shop access portion does appear to be stabilized by
gravel. Also, the residence yard has been stabilized by a lawn, decking and of course, the
building itself. These features need to be incorporated into the reclamation plan and shown
on the reclamation map.
2. Some concrete storage bins and pads have been poured on the north side of the area
proposed for release. Please include these features in the reclamation plan, describe their
function and how they support the revised residential post-mining land use for this small
percentage of the permit area.
3. The knob located to the west of the residence /shop yard does not appear to be consistent
with that post-mining land use. It appears to be a mined-oft knob that needs to be
reclaimed per the approved reclamation plan. Please remove this knob from the area to be
released, or justify it's inclusion in the area designated for residential post-mining land use.
4. The slope to the east of the residence is not considered to be stabilized until adequate
vegetation is established to minimize erosion and weed infestation. This area will need to
be removed from the area proposed to be released unless adequate vegetation is established
there now.
