Permit #: Confidental?:
Class: lSlO Type-Seq.:
From: To:
Doc. Name:
ASPHALT Doc. Date (if o date stamp):
SPECIALTIES CO.
7321 East 88th Ave. Henderson, CO 80640 (303) 289-8555 Fax: (303) 289-7707
ASPHALT SPECIALTIES CO. MEMO
TO: Neighbors to the Speer Mining Resource Gravel Pit at 120"' and Brighton Rd.,
Adams County
FROM: Rob Laird, Land Manager, Asphalt Specialties Company
DATE: November 13, 2002
RE: Amendment to State Mining Permit for, Expansion of Mining
Dear Neighbors:
For most of you, you have already received this information from me personally near the
first of September this year. Enclosed with this memo is "official" notification being sent
by Certified Mail as required by the State Division of Minerals and Geology regarding
the referenced amendment to our mining permit. You also should shortly be receiving
notification from Adams County that out amendment has been submitted to them for a
decision.
The amendment to our mining plan to be approved through both the County and the State
that will add about 12 more acres and about two more years of mining to our approved
Special Use through Adams County. We are requesting only that the mining area be
expanded to the north on the east side of the Platte River to continue to provide our
company with sand and gravel from this location for about another two years. We are not
increasing our truck hauls or changing the route, we are not increasing our hours of
operation, and we are not adding any more equipment to the plant.
The after-use for the additional area to be mined will be the same as for the current
mining area: the entire property will be constructed as awater-storage reservoir with a
natural-looking shoreline. I'm sure you all have seen the lakes and reservoirs to the west
across the river along 124'h and south of this site on the east side of Brighton Rd. That is
what this property will look like in about three years. The reservoir/lake will attract
waterfowl and will act as "open space" as no residential or commercial development will
occur around the perimeter of the reservoir.
Please call me at 303 659-8329 or on my cell phone at 303 994-2015 if you have any
questions or concerns.
Tha~ilc you!
