Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
Re: Adequacy Review of Permit Amendment (AMl) M & G Pit (M-1986-079)
Steve,
After review of the amendment submittals and after our 1/18/2007 phone conversation
regazding the M & G Pit, the Division is seeking clarification on some issues. I would
appreciate it if you could please respond to the following questions prior to the 4/12/2007
decision due date so that this office has time to review your responses.
1. Please clarify the purpose of the proposed stormwater detention pond. Is it to be
used for stormwater runoff from the M & G Pit and/or the Dunes subdivision?
Will the detention pond remain after reclamation is complete? Where does the
detention pond dischazge to? Has or will the Operator apply for a stormwater
discharge permit for this detention pond?
2. Please provide a design for the stormwater pond, including the proposed elevation
of the bottom of the stormwater detention pond, and of the dischazge pipe?
3. What is the elevation of the historic ground water level? How was this number
derived?
4. Is the stormwater detention pond expected to hold water for more then 72 hours at
a time? If so the Operator may be required to obtain a Substitute Supply Plan
from the State Engineers Office.
5. Is there currently or aze there any plans to get a stormwater discharge or point
source discharge permit for the reclamation work at the M & G Pit? It appears
that you will be discharging to the Howe Pit; will the Howe Pit CDPS permit need
to be amended to handle the additional dischazge from the M & G Pit?
6. Please describe the system for dischazging water off of the site and pumping fill
material on to the site during the reclamation phase.
7. There is some confusion on the amount of remaining permitted acreage. Based on
the two DMG letters dated 2/26/2006 you forwarded it appeazs that the current
permit acreage is 78.78 acres, is this correct?
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines
