Permit No. M-1977-534 ~m~,~r,~'/va a2 (,~,.,...,,o,TG!
Mr. Schreiner,
Thank you for this opportunity to comment. Clear Creek County has some concerns over the proposed
amendment to increase the acreage in order to accommodate material from the western pit that has been
moved and stockpiled on the eastern portion of the permit boundary. The County and the Town of
Empire has had to deal with significant fugitive dust coming from these stockpiles of material during
windy days over the past year.
During the Spring and Summer months of 2004, we understand that the City of Golden has been working
with the Air Pollution Control Division of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment
(CDPHE) in reviewing additional measures for dust control and stabilization of the stockpiles, and tha[
they are currently planning to use the SOILTAC application, combined with grading modifications in order
to mitigate the heavy fugitive dust problem. Previous mitigation measures have not worked.
We understand that fugitive dust is mostly an issue that the air Pollution Control Division of CDPHE
should regulate, however, if there is anything that the Division of Minerals and Geology can do through
this amendment application to assure that fugitive dust from stockpiles can be minimized, we ask that it be
done.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact our Planning Director, Frederick Rollenhagen at (303) 679-
2360.
Sincerely,
Jo Ann Sorensen, C/o~nunpissioner
_ ~~/-
Harry Dale, ommissioner
