JeffDeatherage
RE: Temporary Use of Well Permit No. 32883
Deaz Mr. Deatherage:
pp,,,., A nx- a l
RECEIVED
FEB 2 4 2005
Oivisien ~f Minerals and Geology
I am contacting you on the recommendation of Ms. Kathleen Sullivan of the Division of
Minerals and Geology. I am a party of record in the matter of the 112c permit amendment
application of Aggregate Industries mining permit no. M-199-034, AM-Ol. In their order of July
8, 2003 (copy attached), the Mined Land Reclamation Boazd (ML,RB) required that Aggregate
Industries sample the domestic water supply well, permit no. 2455, on my adjacent property for
the contaminant DIMP.
The citation of the well to be sampled was in ercor, however, and corcected in the Boazd's
modification of December 12, 2003 (copy attached). The corcect well is my decreed ircigation
alluvial well permit no. 32883. This well has been tagged by the local water commissioner as
requiring a substitute water supply or replacement plan to continue operating for its decreed use.
At this time, a plan for augmentation has not been submitted, and the well is not being operated.
I would like to utilize this well for water quality sampling purposes only as specified in the
MLRB order and the monitoring plan submitted by Aggregate Industries. Ms. Sullivan has
determined that the well casing volume for this alluvial well is approximately 170 gallons.
Standard environmental sampling protocol usually requires the removal of three casing volumes
prior to sampling. As such, we anticipate pumping approximately 510 gallons of water from this
well for each sampling event.
I am requesting the State Engineer's approval to allow pumping from my irrigation alluvial well
permit no. 32883 for water quality monitoring purposes only as specified in the MLRB order for
mining permit M-199-034, AM-Ol. Please feel free to wntact me directly, if you have any
questions or comments regarding this communication.
Sincerely,
~~
Kazen Topper
Cc: Kathleen_Sullixan, DMG
