At that time the operator had been pumping pit water, which had <br />accumulated in quantities that were unacceptable to the operator, from <br />the pit via a 6 inch aluminum irrigation pipe into Mann Uraw which is <br />immediately north of the pit. <br />The pump was operating but no water was being discharged from the pipe <br />initially during my inspection. The operator moved the pump so the <br />intake had access to deeper water and then pumping again proceeded. <br />I took my samples after the operator <br />stirred up the water contained in the <br />settled previously became suspended. <br />"worst case". <br />had the pump moved. i4oving the pump <br />pit and many solids that had <br />I~1y sample therefore may represent a <br />I took three samples. The first sample was taken at the pipe outlet <br />after it had run 2 or 3 minutes. The bottles and caps were all rinsed <br />with sample water three times prior to collection of the samples. <br />The water flowing from the pipe was flowing at such a rate that it filled <br />the bottle very rapidly. The bottle was held parallel to the flow at the <br />side of the water column until it was filled to overflowing. The bottle <br />was then immediately removed and tightly capped. <br />The second sample was taken at the lower edye of the flume in Mann Draw. <br />The rate of flow at the flume was much slower. The bottle was placed <br />among the rocks below the flume but was not totally submerged due to the <br />shallow depth of the water. Water was allowed to flow into the bottle to <br />a stabilized level. The bottle was then removed and tightly capped. <br />The third sample was also taken at the discharye pipe in the same manner <br />described earlier.
