III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
999
Extension of Abatement
The following is an explanation of why an extension of the
abatement to violations numbered C-86-028 and C-86-029 would
be required.
The notice of violations were not received at the Colorado
Springs office until April 9th. Because the second half of
each month is devoted primarily to the hydrologic monitoring
of five of the six permitted Kaiser properties, it was decided
by Kaiser personnel to complete the hydrology on time and ask
for an extension of the abatement (hydrology for CCMC No. 1
was concluded on April 28th and for Chimney Rock Coal on April
30th) .
At the urgency of Tom Schreiner of
to make a complete inspection of t
control structures of the Somerset
done in the fourth week of April.
Kaiser personnel that ensuring the
Somerset was mandatory.
the MLRD, it was necessary
~e drainage and sediment
Mine. This will give Kaiser time to order all
supplies, materials, and tools required to complete
backfilling and capping. A follow up inspection will be made
during the first week in June to verify that all work is
completed properly.
Kaiser has committed to comply and work with state and federal
regulatory agencies. Our objective is to ensure a minimal
amount of disturbance and environmental impact due to mining.
An extension of the abatement to the violations issued at CCMC
No.l is necessary to complete any problems which may exist.
