BANTA, Director <br />DATE: October 16, 1989 <br />T0: Jim Pendleton <br />FROM: Carl Mount~'7~~~ <br />RE: NOV C-89-024 Abatement <br />Peabody Coal Company, Seneca II Mine, <br />Permit C-80-005 <br />Peabody indicated that the above-referenced NOV had been abated on <br />October 2, 1989, To see if the NOV has been abated, please check: <br />1. The 48" culvert at dual installation 9a. <br />a. Located 30 yards downstream from Wadae impoundment (Pond 0021 <br />outlet. <br />b, 48" culvert was crushed, 30" culvert was ok. <br />c. Check to see if new culvert (48") was installed and/or old one <br />fixed. Either condition is ok. <br />2. 18" and 48" culverts at dual installation 19a. <br />a, Located under haul road El at haul roads E1 and Al A2 intersections, <br />b. 18" culvert was missing at the time of inspection. <br />c. Calculations in TR-18 indicate that a 60" culvert is necessary to <br />handle the 10 year, 24-hour peak flow, <br />d. If a 60" culvert is installed, then it's ok. <br />3. Culvert 34a which was found to be 36" in diameter. <br />a. Calculations and Table 12-6 in the permit application indicated, at <br />the time of inspection, that this culvert should have been 48" in <br />diameter. <br />b, Calculations in TR-18 indicate that the culvert should be at least <br />42" in diameter. <br />c. If newly installed culvert is 42" in diameter, then ok. <br />Please refer to the attached Exhibit 7-7 for all culvert locations: locations <br />are hiDhliahted in pink. I have also attached a completed termination notice <br />for NOV C-89-024.
