Id.'.Il"~ p•r-:~~,'ES
I wanted to take an opportunity to bring you cur-
rent.on our efforts to date since your recent visit
when the early run-off and a frozen culvert contri-
buted to a small run-off problem.
As you know we are experiencing our first spring run-
off at our new facility and we are finding what parts
of our sediment system are working well and what parts
need more work. Since your last visit, we have located
and opened all of the culverts that needed work and have
inspected the rest of the system including ponds and
ditches. They are all now operating properly and will
be closely monitored to maintain good operation. We
have also noted during this inspection what parts of
the system need improvement and will be working on
these as soon as the weather permits.
The areas you were concerned with, as you know, have
been fixed and we are monitoring these locations to
be sure they continue to operate as designed.
We are very concerned about our environment and the
possibility of resultant violations. Because of this
concern, I have made an investigation of areas around
the plugged culvert to determine the extent of any
damage and to mitigate any damage if found. I found
as a result of this investigation no evidence of flow
into the river or any flow at the base of the hill on
the old Bear mine (east end). As we know some water
went over the bank at the top, I can only speculate
as to where the water went. I feel that due to the
extreme dense oakbrush and associated species on the
slope along with the thick accumulation of litter on
the floor, the water was slowed and distributed over
the hill side and mostly absorbed by the vegetation
and litter. Any water not absorbed must have been
in such small quanitity as it passed over the rock
cliff edge that it did not leave any evidence or
signs of flow, i.e. icicles, mud stains, snow stains
or small deposits. We will inspect again for potential
damage and remedial action required.
~ PC 6022
