State of Colorado
Division of Minerals and Ge~~logy
1313 Sherman St. room 215
Denver co. 80203
Mr. William C. York-Feirn
Environmental Specialist
Dear Mr. York-Feirn
November 17, 1994
RECEI ~/E(
NoV ~ 81994
Oivisio~ of Miheraig $ Ueo og~
I herewith acknowledge and respond to your communication dated November 14, 1994 regarding
the Phoenix mine permit No. M-82-075 which has been permitted I believe sinced 1983. The
original plan was to reclaim I.o a tourist business, and this is now mostly accomplished. The
original claims permitted covered 15.92 acres. Hardly any of this was disturbed for mining in that
long period of time. 15.48 acres is now reclaimed for tourist recreational purposes- view, hiking
wild flowers etc. The retained area of 0.44 acres is being co-shared for tourism use and possible
mining intent. This amounts to 2 percent of the original area, and is less than 1/2 acre.
The Tourism activity at the Phoenix mine is being enhanced by television. The mine was shown
live on FX cable on the "New York Morning Breakfast show` some weeks back That evening it
was replayed at 7pm Denver time. The Phoenix was later shown live on the `America Talks' ABC
program out of New York. It was filmed for public television, Dutch television, and Japanese
televison. The most recent filming was for demonstrating the training of the Rocky Mtn
Expeditionary school on the'Com Brokoff NBC anchor man program.
Because of the Phoenix minf~'s value to the states tourism business, Governor Romer recently
instructed the State Highway Dept. to help the Phoenix solve the problem of getting a legal sign
visible from the interstate highway. We are working to this end
Exhibit E- The cost of reclaiming the 0.44 acres to tourism is none. No changes will have to be
made as it is akeady, in its present state, being used to show tourists mine related stuff.
Equipment, building etc. are of keen interest to tourists as is.
Thank you for your co-operation and help.
Sincerely yours,
cZ~•-h, G~jj a~z~
~II II~IIIII~I~~~ ~I~
sss
Alvin Mosch
