LonK
MEMORANDUM Division Director
DATE: February 1 , 1993
TO: Larry Oehler
FROM: Harry Posey ~ C7 I
RE: Cadmium Problems; Battle Mountain Resources, Inc.; San Luis Project;
Permit No. M-88-112
Alana Scott's memorandum of January 25, 1993 regarding the cadmium corcramination
presents reasonable explanation of the problems. Although the memorandum notes that
recently-collected samples are being evaluated on a rapid turnaround basis, it does not
indicate what will be done to prevent the problem in the future.
Provided the barrel filter is causing the problem because the filter is inherently
contaminated, then should to be replaced, whether the next sample run gives negative
results or not. If BMG or Halapeska do not agree we should ask, at least, for an
explanation telling how the barrel filter will be re-commissioned.
m:\min\hhplyjb\BMG 1
