Long <br />Division Director <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 118, <br />Paragraph 3, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on May 29, 2001, an application to revise coal mining <br />operations at the Lorencito Canyon Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. All review and <br />comment periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from this date of filing. <br />Lorencito Coal Company proposes to modify the mine plan to include contour mining in the lower portions of <br />Lorencito Canyon, Jeff Canyon and Little Jeff Canyon. A coal loadout would also be located along the railroad <br />tracks at the mouth of the canyon. <br />The combined surface and underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 3 miles west of <br />Segundo on Hwy 12. The permit azea is further described as follows: <br />On lands south of the Purgatoire River, lands east of the South Fork of the Purgatoire and Alamosa Canyon, lands <br />north of Vermejo Pazk, and lands west of Widow Woman Canyon containing approximately 17,862 acres. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Tercio. <br />A copy of the revision application is available for public inspection at the Las Animas County Courthouse, 200 <br />East First Street, Room 104, Trinidad, CO 81082, and at the Division office.
