STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866-3567
FAX: {303) 832-0106
DATE: January 2, 2007
TO: i/ Byron Walker
COLORADO
DIVISION OF
RECLAMATION
MINING
- St-
SAFETY
Rill Owens
Governor
Russell George
Executive Director
rt
FROM: Joe Dudash Ronald w. cottony
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
RE: Bowie No. 2 i e, Permit No. C-1996-083, Bowie Resources LLC.
Technical Revision No. 44 West Expansion of Gob Pile No. 2,
Adequacy Review
Bowie Resources LLC (BRL) has submitted responses to the Division's adequacy review
letter dated November 3, 2006 for Technical Revision No. 44 (TR-44). I am requesting
your assistance in the review of BRL's responses to questions numbered 11 though 14,
which were contained in your memo dated October 31, 2006.
There is one issue that requires attention very soon, however. In your adequacy memo,
you requested certain geotechnical information be provided before approval of TR-44 can
be given. BRL responded that the geotechnical drilling is finished and that the
geotechnical report will be available in February. However, BRL is running out of room
for gob so they are requesting that we approve TR-44 now, with the stipulation that the
geotechnical report will be submitted later that shows that the gob pile addition design is
in compliance.
As you had requested, I e-mailed Jim Stover and asked him whether any springs or seeps
were discovered in the excavated expansion area. He said the area was entirely dry.
Attached is a copy of the TR-44 response cover letter, Figure 1 and Map 15-3. In
addition, I included approved Figure 1 that shows the approximate locations of the
geotechnical drill holes for gob pile no. 1 and gob pile no. 2.
If you could get responses back to me by the end of Thursday, January 4, 2007, I would
appreciate it. Thanks.
Attachments
cc: Sandy Brown (without attachments)
Dan Hernandez (without attachments)
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Active and InaRive Mines
